03-02-18 CALLABASH CREEK
 N33°52.466' / W078°34.216'

0006 So today turned out a lot different than planned.  We were at Bucksport last night as you know.  Thought we might spend a day or two waiting for things to settle down.  Early this morning the intrepid captain wakes me up and announces we are leaving soon.  Actually this made some sense as the wind was still light and we needed to clear two swing bridges that do not open in high winds.  That worked out fine and both opened for us and the wind , though strong, was manageable.  So we set our sights on making Southport which meant going across two inlets that are known for trouble spots at low tide!  Doable but needing caution.  We passed by the last good anchoring option, Callabash, before Southport and the wind just started to howl.  Captain Paul said that the prudent thing would have been to stop at Callabash.  "Well", said the cautious first mate, "we can go back and it is only a few miles." We did a u-turn, the first I can recall, and headed back to Callabash for the night.  This was a good decision.  Tomorrow we can go through the shallow areas at high tide!!  The Anchorage is a bit choppy but comfortable enough for these two salty dogs.
This evening, we watched two cruise boats that go out the nearby inlet for gambling and drinking.  Think they have to be 3 miles offshore.  Would NOT want to be out there.
We hear that Boston area being hit hard so things here do not seem so bad.
